After my comment (#198) I started to read the comments here about suggestions and difficulties and I realized how the project is guided by a committee and in it are mostly for-profit companies, I believe that any existing format can be used by companies, but that the mastery over how this format would evolve, no. As with OpenOffice, Linux and so many other projects, I am starting a temporary organization with the aim of starting an open and democratically discussed format.
I already send the invitation for https://github.com/openged for the 40 persons in some degree have contributions here in FamilySearch and in https://github.com/todrobbins/awesome-gedcom. This is the most qualified person to make decisions, persons that create software and have their own struggle with this format.
The idea:
The invite is send to: @fisharebest, @tychonievich, @ungeahnt, @dthaler, @todrobbins, @stoicflame, @ShammyLevva, @ephraimkunz, @pirtleshell, @mikefarmer, @pdavies011010, @rbur004, @jl5000, @dijxtra, @zappala, @nickreynke, @amandasaurus, @cfinke, @mrkrstphr, @stuporglue, @mikkelee, @tmcw, @connrs, @thoughtsunificator, @dcapwell, @woodbri, @thnaeff, @frizbog, @iand, @scott-steadman, @stangel, @prm9894, @orestesgaolin, @alfredxiao, @ligurio, @jo-pol, @bricas, @BruceWhealton, @PatKayongo and @vmiklos.
