Volatiles might not be well-mixed in the interior of these planets. This is important when considering how they partition into the atmosphere, since volatiles near the surface will interact more directly than those in the deep interior (particularly those in the solid phase - see also #180).

We should consider the impacts of this, maybe starting with a simple toy model.
