Unfortunately I have not been developing this for a while. I intended to
use this kernel module for a robotics application and wanted to minimize
the impact to the CPU. I ended up just using software counters in my
program and writing to the GPIO pins. Turned out that was good enough for
me.

There was a fork from the project some time ago, but I haven't looked into
the changes he/she made.
