Overhaul tests and increase coverage

Test coverage is very poor at the moment, and some modules (networks, media) do not have any tests.

Also, already implemented tests should be re-examined, especially for the gfunction module where outputs are compared between calls using different solver options instead of comparing individual calls to the expected outputs.

This issue follows #179 and #180.
