future3 cant control volume of hifiberry miniamp

Hi,

I want to use future3 with a hifiberry miniamp. My speakers are working. But I can't control the volume. The volume is always very very loud (100% ?)
Does anybody use successfully future3 with a miniamp?

I tried to reduce sound volume:
pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 10

Though the ouput is extreme loud:
paplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

I am using Raspberry Pi OS Lite, Kernel version: 5.10, Debian version: 11 (bullseye)

My Flags: HARDWARE HW_VOLUME_CTRL LATENCY differs from the output of @PsychoD. Also values like -15,58 dB are missing.

Do you have a hint, how to change it to Flags: HARDWARE DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY?

Could you try deleting ~/.config/pulse/default.pa and reboot. This will use a system default as fallback and should auto-detect your audio hardware.

Did you disable the on-board audio output? Try disabling that too, please
Did you create a asound.conf? Try removing this file as will, please.

Then try to change the volume also from the command line, i.e. with $ alsamixer.

My setup is: Raspberry PI 2, Raspberry Pi OS Lite, Debian Version 10 (buster), Kernel 5.10 and jukebox in branch future3/main

I'm able to change the volume via
paplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav --volume=10000 (=low volume) or
paplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav --volume=65536 (=max volume).

Via Web-GUI I'm able to toggle between the primary and the secondary output.
Furthermore, I'm able to change the volume for the 'Headphones' output which is a USB-Soundcard.
But changes for the secondary device have no effect. I just see the fader in- and decreasing, but the volume sticks to what I think is the maximum.

I've the feeling pulse & alsa config is correct but the issue is related to the mpd config. My ~/.config/mpd/mpd.conf looks like this:

Controlling the volume is done w/o MPD. From the app we connect directly to the PulseAudio Server. So, it could be one of two locations the error comes in:

• We do something wrong in communicating with the PluseAudio Server
• There is something wrong with the system configuration

Could you try the following steps

• Try deleting ~/.config/pulse/default.pa and reboot. This will use a system default as fallback and should auto-detect your audio hardware.
• Did you disable the on-board audio output? Try disabling that too, please
• Did you create a asound.conf? Try removing this file as will, please.

Then try to change the volume also from the command line, i.e. with $ alsamixer.

Also please check the log file: shared/logs/app.log. Check what is happening when changing the volume via the Jukebox App.

I would suggest to first investigate the system configuration before investigating the communication with the PulseAudio Server.
Here my comments on your suggestions:

• I read somewhere in the docs, that 'buster' is recommended - but this could be the case only for 2.3 -> I'll check the section in the docs and will update them with this recommendation in case it's necessary. I'll do a fresh install with bullseye and keep you updated.
• Deleting default.pa does not help in my case -> The issue is still there
• The on-board audio is already disabled
• I've no ~/.asoundrcin my home directory. Or do you really mean to delete the /etc/asound.conf?
• Can you explain what you mean by 'changing' the volume via alsamixer? With that tool, I can change the volume level, but how to check if this has an effect? If I do paplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav the volume remains the same, no matter what I set in the alsamixer. Is that how it should be?

@ChisSoc: Would you mind to share your /etc/asound.conf so that we might compare the settings?

Hi folks,

I can finally confirm that the issue disappeared after a clean install of future3 on bulleseye.
After the fresh install I have no more /etc/asound.conf - it looks like it's working with all the default settings.
