<p>
Northeastern University the School of Humanities and Law began recruiting students in September 1923. In January 1929, the Ministry of Education of the former National Government issued a general order for the implementation of college system in universities, accordingly, the Division of Humanities was changed into the Humanities College, and the Division of Law became the Law College. In 1993, after the restoration of Northeastern University to the present name, the School of Humanities and Law was reestablished in December. </p>
<p>
Through the efforts of several generations, Northeastern University became one of the first universities among universities of science and engineering nationwide to obtain the right to grant doctorate degree in liberal arts. It is also one of the first 24 universities which have the the right to confer a master's degree in Master of Public Administration (MPA). Presently, the School of Humanities and Law has one state-level key discipline (the Philosophy of Science and Technology) and three province-level key disciplines (the Philosophy of Science and Technology, Public Administration and the Basic Principles of Marxism); the Science, Technology and Society (STS), Philosophy and Social Sciences Innovative Research Base—a "985 Project" of the Ministry of Education, "Science and Technology Policy Research Strategy Training Base" attached to the Ministry of Education, and the National Science and Techonology Policy Research Center in the Northeastern China attached to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Northeastern University Science, Technology and Society (STS) Research Center—the key humanities and social sciences research base in universities in Liaoning Province. </p>
<p>
The School of Humanities and Law has two postdoctoral research stations, two doctoral programs of primary disciplines, four doctoral programs of secondary disciplines, six master's degree programs of primary disciplines, four master's degree programs of secondary disciplines, one professional master's degree program and seven bachelor's degree programs. Among them, the two postdoctoral research stations are: Philosophy, Public Administration. The two doctoral programs of primary disciplines: Public Administration (including five secondary disciplines: Public Administration, Educational Economy and Management, Land Resources Management, Social Medicine and Health Management, Social Security); Philosophy (including eight secondary disciplines: Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, foreign philosophy, logic, ethics, aesthetics, religion, philosophy of science and technology). Four doctoral programs of secondary disciplines include Principles of Marxism, Technology Management and Technology Policy, Science and Innovation Project Management, History of Metallurgical Engineering. Six master's degree programs of primary disciplines (including 35 secondary disciplines) are: Philosophy, Public Administration, Political Science, Marxist Theory, History of Science and Technology, Law. Four master's degree programs of secondary disciplines include Political Economics, Technology Management and Technology Policy, Science and Innovation Project Management, History of Metallurgical Engineering. One professional master's degree program is Master of Public Administration (MPA). Seven bachelor's degree programs include Administration, Public Service Administration, the Science of Law, Ideological and Political Education, Economics, Journalism, Philosophy. </p>

The academic organizations of the School of Humanities and Law include nine research centers (the National Science and Techonology Policy Research Center in the Northeast, MPA Education Center of Northeastern University, Ideological and Political Theory Instruction Research Center, Philosophy of Science and Technology Research Center, Politics & Public Administration Research Center, Zhang Xueliang Research Center, NPO and Social Policy Research Centre, Creative Economy Research Center of the Northeaster China, Urban & Rural Community Research Center of Northeastern University); Eleven research institutes (Technology and Society Research Institute, Educational Economy and Management Research Institute, Land Management Research Institute, Socialism Research Institute, Modern and Contemporary Chinese History Research Institute, Marxist Philosophy Research Institute, Ideology and Moral Education Research Institute, Ethics Research Institute, the History of Science and Technology Research Institute, Northeastern Economy Research Institute) and six departments (Department of Politics, Department of Law, Department of Public Administration, Department of Economics, Department of Journalism, Department of Philosophy). </p>
<p>
Presently, the School of Humanities and Law has teaching and administrative staff of 130 people, including 114 full-time teachers, 15 office workers, 1 non-teaching technical professional. There are 24 professors, 33 associate professors and 16 doctoral supervisors. Among the teaching staff there is one committee member of Discipline Review Board of the State Council; one teacher was entitled "state-level star teacher"; one was entitled "province-level star teacher". There is also one committee member of national MPA Education Steering Committee, one chairman, and two members of Public Administration Education Steering Committee in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, one member of Educational Technology and Methods Steering Committee, one vice chairman of Innovative Approach to Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee, one vice chairman of Post-graduate Course of Ideological and Political Theory Teaching Guidance Committee. </p>
<p>
The School of Humanities and Law has made remarkable achievements in curriculum development and teaching material construction, among which the courses "the life wisdom of Lao Zi" and "community management" were valued as the "national quality open video class", "Research on Public Administration Curriculum System Construction" and "Research on Public Administration Curriculum Teaching-Material Construction" respectively won the first and the second prize of National Teaching Achievements Assessment; "Administrative Science" and "Community Management" were named "State-level Excellent Course". The textbooks "Community Management", and "Educational Economy and Management" were named the "National Quality Textbooks". Over the past decade, the teachers of the School of Humanities and Law have undertaken nearly one thousand research projects, including those sponsored by the National Natural Science Funds, and the National Social Science Funds, as well as key projects in philosophy and social science research of the Ministry of Education, and other types of research projects, which contributed a lot to the society, and in return achieved great social impact. </p>
