clicking on the download link opens the upload window in firefox 30.0 on linux and does not let me copy it into my X selection #71
Comments
When I finish uploading a file using Firefox 30.0 as with Chrome, I get a text of the link which is already selected, and all I need to do is ctrl+c (in windows) to copy it to clipboard. |
I also get there. I get a text of the link which is already selected. But it is selected by some javascript and thus not in my X clip board. On linux, one copy-pastes by selecting text with the mouse. That text will automatically be put into the X clip board. No further key presses or clicks are necessary. To paste the text from the X clip board one presses the middle mouse button. To use ctrl+C and ctrl+V I'd need to use a desktop environment like gnome or kde which I'm not using. I'm only relying on X, a minimal window manager and my terminal and thus want to use the X clip board as usual. But as described initially, to copy into my X clip board I need to mark the text with the mouse. I cannot do that because the moment I press the mouse button down, the firefox upload dialog appears. |
Interesting, so what is the desired user experience? |
Oh indeed - I did not notice that the address bar value is getting updated as well. In that case this would work for me and I just copypaste the address from the address bar instead of the text field. In cany case: I would not've expected the upload dialog to pop up if I click on the download link. This is somehow counter intuitive in my eyes. Clicking on the link should do exactly nothing. This also does not seem to be a firefox issue as I just reproduced the same behaviour in chromium. But then again my input is probably not that valueable because I would also rather have an actual button to upload instead of clicking on this rectangle ;) |
Hi,
I'm running firefox 30.0 and after choosing a file and the preparation being finished I'm presented with the download link which I want to send to friends. Then I want to select the link so that I can paste it with the middle mouse button into my chat window from my X clipboard. But every time I click on the link, the firefox upload dialog opens. Thus I'm unable to mark the link for copy-ing it onto my X selection.
