Make sure to download .NET 8 Desktop Runtime. Needed by DS4Windows 3.3

The move over to having DS4Windows target .NET 8 has begun. Once version 3.3 is released, the application will target .NET 8 so the appropriate Desktop Runtime will need to be installed on your PC in order to continue running DS4Windows. It would be best to install the Desktop Runtime now to be ready for the future update.

Hi, I''m having a problem getting this working. i have the .NET runtime and after extracting both compressed files or running the installer. a pop up says an app is need with no information in what that is. link goes to microsoft store but no search result

Are you sure you are trying to run my version and not a bootleg? AFAIK, there are at least two known bootleg versions of DS4Windows floating out there and those explicitly require you to upvote the app on the Microsoft Store in order to access features already available in this version. Between those and Paliverse taking most of DS4Library for DSX and then trashing me, that motivated me to switch the licensing of DS4Windows to GPL v.3 rather than MIT. All that really does is that it makes my stance a bit more explicit that I want open source code to stay open. People will likely still be d*cks and do whatever they want.

Nothing in my version of DS4Windows links to the Microsoft Store and I am outright against using it. The main redirect would be directly in the .NET bootstrap if you do not have .NET 8 already installed on your PC. Even that would open a browser and direct you to the official Microsoft .NET download center to download the necessary runtime installer so you can open the app normally.

This also sounds like the "You need an app to open this type of file" dialog, but that shouldn't be popping up for zip and especially not for exe unless system file associations are wrecked. Make sure that you are downloading the .zip from releases unless you have 7-zip installed?
