Can blockGap be used on innerBlocks?

I have declared support for blockGap in the block.json file of a custom block, which has innerBlocks.
I can see the controls for the blockGap in the Editor sidebar.
But changing the Block Spacing does not affect the distance between blocks in the innerBlocks.

Is innerBlocks supposed to support the blockGap feature? Do I need to make any code changes for it to work?

Got help from @tellthemachines: in block.json not only the supports.spacing.blockGap needs to be declared, but also supports.layout needs to be set to true.

In my case the blocks are aligned vertical so I needed to make extra adjustments for that.
