Following a discussion on the chat, I'm opening this issue :

Turns out that there are currently "two" CodiMD

  • The one we ship currently in this app is from https://github.com/codimd/server and currently version 1.6. It's about to be renamed into HedgeDoc
  • And there's also https://github.com/hackmdio/codimd currently in version 2.2 and is actually some sort of open source edition (AGPL 3) of HackMD. HackMD being apparently a proprietary software (?) for business/enterprises. (Didn't do so much research)

Related issue about naming if you want to read the whole drama : hackmdio/codimd#1219 ( I haven't really took the time to read the whole thing, the end of the thread seem to suggest the Hack MD team isn't so friendly but would need more time to really have an opinion)

The user I was originally discussing this was interested in hackmd-open-source-edition because it has more features.

What a mess… I'd like to wait until the situation is a bit clarified, and to see which project is evolving in the best way, not only on the feature side but also in its way to include the community (I don't wanna fall into another collabora-like naming issue or similar… ;).
In particular , in the medium term, I'd like to see if the HedgeDoc project is in good health.

  • The naming not being an issue anymore between CodiMD and Hedgedoc, and instead of letting this package die, I propose to upgrade it with the CodiMD open source from hackMD.
  • I think it worth having the two repos as they are proposing different features (Hedgedoc with its future version 2.0 will have more specific UX and features)

Do you have some link about that ? I missed that information, that's interesting :)

People are confused about the difference between codimd/CodiMD and hackmd/CodiMD.

Unfortunately, this link is just people arguing about the name and no differences aside from the license are actually mentioned. I can't find anywhere what the actual differences between hackmd, codimd, and hedgedoc are.
