says loading for days but isn't

I used to use the Zecwallet.Fullnode appimage. Lately I used Zecwallet.Fullnode-1.8.7.AppImage, and it or some older version worked. Earlier this year I had to free up space so deleted the blockchain and everything but my wallet.dat. Now I have more space and want to re-download the blockchain (though it'd be preferable if Zecwallet.Lite would also be updated). I ran this Zecwallet.Fullnode for several days and it says 'loading' but not one block nor other files appeared in /home/user/.zcash .

fresh install from source on ArchLinux
no error message
nothing
just keep "Loading..." for hours
doesn't looks to be related to browser (tried on firefox, barve, vivaldi,...)
