Help understanding how the volumes in docker should work

I have created the following folders:

/home/sysadmin/homarr/configs
/home/sysadmin/homarr/icons

As such my docker compose file is

version: '3'

#---------------------------------------------------------------------#
services:
  homarr:
    container_name: homarr
    image: ghcr.io/ajnart/homarr:latest
    restart: unless-stopped
    volumes:
      - ~/homarr/configs:/app/data/configs
      - ~/homarr/icons:/app/public/icons
    ports:
      - '7575:7575'

With homarr running, should I be seeing data in the above folders? I have uploaded an image to logos but its not appearing and no changes I make appear in the volume directory. I have also tried referencing the full path ie. /home/sysadmin/homarr/configs etc

Not sure what I changed but it is working now using the full path.
