Support for archive files would be nice.

Maybe, the URL could just use the archive file as a regular path directory and specify the specific including file via the subpath. I.e. archive.zip/filename.

For 7zip, there is PyLZMA with its py7zlib module. For ZIP, there the official zipfile module.
