Hi!

My name is Neil Hanlon, and I am working to package sdnotify into Fedora so it can be used there as well as several other distributions which are downstream of Fedora like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux, and others. Personally, I manage the infrastructure team for Rocky Linux and help build our cloud images. sdnotify is a dependency of Oracle's oci-utils package, and I am working to ultimately have that package available, too.

You can check out the status of the builds in Fedora at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-sdnotify - and please let me know if you have any questions. One of Fedora's core tenants is staying close to upstream, so I am happy to assist in whatever way I can :)

Best,
Neil

Hi Neil, thanks so much for your note! I'm happy sdnotify is finding use in Fedora and its downstream distros. :) I will be away for the next few months, but if any problems come up during your packaging efforts, please feel free to open other issues here and I'll be happy to help when I'm back. In the meantime, best wishes!

Hi @bb4242 - hope your spring is going well :)

I was wondering if you'd be open to some github actions workflow that would automatically release a new version of the package to github (and pypi). This would help the process in the future for making sure downstream distributions have the latest versions of sdnotify.

Happy to help/discuss/etc

Hi @NeilHanlon, nice to hear from you, and hope you're doing well. :) For sure, I'd be happy to have some release automation in place, that sounds like a great idea. I'm not very familiar with github actions and will be mostly offline again for the next ~6 weeks though. If you have the necessary bandwidth and expertise to put together a PR, I'd gladly review when I'm back. Otherwise, I could take a look at doing it myself when I return, haha I've been meaning to learn github actions anyway. ;)
