How to set up charging on demand?

The HA docs imply you can use the charging mode to emulated charging on demand. We don't use schedules or departure times, but after trying some dummy settings we still can't figure out how to configure or use the settings to charge on demand via HA.

Any tips?

You can use select.[vehicle]_charging_mode to change the charging mode of your car.

Example automation to set the mode to immediate charging

When HA is in the inconsistent "unknown" state, resetting the charging mode via the app seems to fix things. I'll try to get some exact analysis soon.

If you have the unknown state, please get a diagnostic entry via the HA device page.
However I'm not sure if I can look at it in detail this week.

I'd prefer if you just upload them here. In contrast to the CLI debug logs and the status output, any data identifying vehicles, locations etc. is cleansed from the HA diagnostic logs.

Just to follow up that this still doesn't work. Setting DELAYED_CHARGING either via HA or CLI results in a charging_mode of UNKNOWN. I think this has something to do with an incompatible schedule?

Are you using lowercase? So delayed_charging instead of DELAYED_CHARGING? This is recently changed in bimmer_connected.

fwiw we have switched to a HA controlled socket now (as we're using a granny charger) so don't require this feature anymore, but happy to help debug it if it's affecting more people than just me.

Nevermind, had a quick look. The invalid state is returned by the API so it seems we send something it does not like or understand:

As I don't have an EV, and sending charging commands is disabled for the demo vehicles, this is impossible for me to debug.

One would need to capture sending the various commands to change charging state on an account with EVs.
