How do I configure the ESC on my iPad keyboard? #1940

The ESC is essential to CLI applications like Vim or Emacs, however the iPad keyboard does not have it. Worry not, you can still configure it within Blink, here is how:

  • In Blink, by default the built-in shortcut for ESC is Ctrl + [.

  • In iOS, you can map ‘ESC’ to any modifier key system-wide within iOS settings. Apple Support Guide

  • In Blink, you can assign other modifier keys like Shift, Cmd presses to ESC. To do so,

  1. Go to Settings>Keyboard
  2. Under “Terminal” select the key you wish to reassign to ESC underneath “PRESS SEND”.
  • If you would like to use a different (non-modifier) key as ESC, like the top left in your keyboard (or tilde in non-US keyboards), or even a combination such as
