Data preparation frequently involves extensive cropping and manipulation operations in Photoshop. Even the very latest version of Photoshop saves PNG files painfully slowly, more than quadrupling the time a batch operation can take (I don't know what the verb is for when an operation takes 10-15 times as long, but that would apply in many cases). Not even the latest version of Photoshop allows you to set compression=0 for PNG, which would potentially alleviate the problem.
On the other hand, Photoshop saves the TIF format (without compression) instantaneously.
Consequently, I am constantly running conversion operations between PNG and TIF, the latter for when I have to manipulate many source images for Kohya in Photoshop.
If TIF could be handled natively in Kohya training (and it is just another wrapper for bitmap content), this pain barrier would be removed.
(Obviously natively lossy formats such as JPEG are not great alternatives)
