Right now I just add external plugins, without any vetting. Maybe some vetting would be welcomed.
Not sure how to display this on the site though.

Well, I think similarly to how you are displaying "Default" last I looked.

I think there would be a few tiers:

  1. Imported from a trusted source, like upstream Caddy
  2. Validated, maybe that means something like:
    • Meets minimum criteria below
    • Has been reviewed and tested by CoreDNS maintainers (but we don't want to do this for every change...)
    • Has integration in CoreDNS CI
  3. Meets minimum "best practices" (this is already listed on the criteria to add it to the site):
    • Works with IPv4 and IPv6, as applicable
    • Has xx% of test coverage
    • Well-documented
