Note that I made the resolution smaller than before. It was 4000px wide which was very excessive and resulted in a 300KB PNG. Now, the PNG is 160KB, and the WebP (which we've recently updated the VS Code website to use, resulting in much smaller images and faster downloads) is only 40KB.

Are you suggesting to use the webp image format on the website instead of PNG?

I’m giving you the option, yes :) WebP at this point has pretty good browser support and much smaller sizes, which translate in faster page loads esp. for people on slower connections.
