Sorry to repeat #12 but having a tagged release to refer back to would be really useful. We're starting to review this tool set for use in our research. If it comes to publication most journals won't accept a commit id, they expect us to acknowledge a stable tagged version of a piece of software for reproducibility.

Take a look at the pull request I just added #21. It doesn't attempt to change the threading, but it does mitigate the hanging problem by having multiple exit points instead.
We've successfully had this run over data that was previously hanging.
