whitespace loss on .html --> .md

Newlines are eaten when converting some HTML source to Markdown.

e.g.:

This is some text.
A new line.

produces

This is some text. A new line.

expected

This is some text. 
A new line.

Technically newlines are whitespace, I know, but still would be nice to preserve.
