Your use case
What would you like to do?
I would like to be able to escape space characters, to have them be ignored by element's formatting (similar to typing out
\>:3
to send>:3
without having the>
be interpreted as formatting)Why would you like to do it?
When I chat with friends, I like to type
w i d e m e s s a g e s
, but, for some reason, element "combines" two consecutive space characters into one. When the message contains more that two consecutive spaces, they are sent as typed, though "combined" into one character upon editing the message. How would you like to achieve it?
I would like to have the space be ignored by all forms of "formatting" in terms of "modifications to raw message text", like this:
Raw text message:
h i\ g u y s
ORh i \ g u y s
"Formatted" message:
h i g u y s
Have you considered any alternatives?
I tried to use 4 spaces to have each pair of spaces get combined into one, as well as editing the message after sending it to add the double space. I also trued using the "rich text editor" option, though i had too many issues and annoyances with it and prefer the "regular" editor to it in many ways.
Additional context
I am generally not very happy with Element's changing of raw message text, though i can see why one would use it. perhaps a toggle for it somewhere in the settings could be added?
The Rich Text Editor Adding yet another row on my screen unecessarily takes up space. I do notlike using the "formatting buttons" provided by it, but i dont wanna switch the rich text editor on and off while typing due to the setting being "buried" and taking long to scroll to.
