# Servlet - Howto#
Accessing native code can be implemented in two ways:
* Create a new Servlet
* Use the NativeServlet Interface
## Create a new Servlet ##
The easiest way to create your own servlet is to make a copy of the existing LrsCServlet (`web-service/src/lse/math/games/web/LrsCServlet`):
1. In Eclipse make a copy of `web-service/src/lse/math/games/web/NativeServlet`
2. Rename the file to `web-service/src/lse/math/games/web/MyServlet`. Press F5 if Eclipse does not update the treeview.
3. Open the source file and change the class name to **MyServlet**.
4. Change `private static final Logger log = Logger.getLogger(NativeServlet.class.getName());` to `private static final Logger log = Logger.getLogger(MyServlet.class.getName());`
5. Open `web-service/war/builder/webservices.xml`
6. Make a copy of a `<Servlet>...</Servlet>` section.
7. Make a copy for the directory (including subdirs) `web-service/war/native` and rename it to `web-service/war/myServletDir`
9. Open `web-service/war/WEB-INF/web.xml` and add a new servlet definition
` <servlet><servlet-name>MyServlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>lse.math.games.web.MyServlet</servlet-class>

10. Add the servlet Mapping to `<servlet-mapping><servlet-name>MyServlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/myServletDir/servlet</url-pattern></servlet-mapping>`
11. Call the ANT target **compileComplete**.
## Use the NativeServlet Interface
1. Open `web-service/war/builder/webservices.xml`
2. Make a copy of a `<Servlet Name="NativeServlet">...</Servlet>` section.
3. Adjust the elements `<Directory>, <BinaryWindows> and <BinaryLinux>` to your needs.
4. Adjust the ANT target **package** to copy your native code files to the appropriate directories (see existing code).
5. Call the ANT target **compileComplete**.
The GTE will read the webservices.xml and execute the binary specified by `<Directory>, <BinaryWindows> and <BinaryLinux>`. GTE will pass three parameters to the program containing three filenames. The first filename links to a file containing the game matrix of both players. The second and third filenames are empty tempfiles. All files are deleted after the program terminates. The external program should write its result to std-out, because GTE reads std-out to display the result in a popup window.
Try NativeServlet which uses **test.bat** or **test.sh** to get a feeling how it works.
##Webservice.xml##
* `<Servlet Name="NativeServlet">`: Specify the text to be displayed in the ddlb (DropDownListbox) of the GTE
* `<Active>`: For later use - not yet used
* `<Tooltip>`: Tooltip for the servlet listed in the ddlb.
* `<Url>`:Url of the servlet (Do not change if you use NativeServlet)
* `<Type>`: **nf**= access the servlet using normal/strategic form. **xf**=access the servlet using tree format.
* `<Directory>`: Directory to specify where binaries are placed
* `<BinaryWindows>`: The binary to be called using Windows
* `<BinaryLinux>`: The binary to be called using Linux
