What is the purpose of the map?

Attached is a screen shot of the app on the iPhone 5S in portrait mode. I do not understand the purpose of the map... I do not see the breweries on the map. Maybe they are outside the map view? The map view is also very small. When I tap a brewery name, I expected the map to zoom / scroll the map to that brewery...
