  • I agree to follow the Code of Conduct that this project adheres to.
  • I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It's not necessarily a problem - just an improvement. We have created a template where the location and the information within the items are required to be locked as it is a system document and the contents can't change or be manipulated. However, this is a template to decide responsibilities and we have created a colour coded legend that the teams themselves are required to highlight throughout the document the items that relate to each role.

Describe the solution you'd like
I saw that at one stage, what I am after was considered a bug under issue "Improve locking #2069" from 2021. In Lucidchart, when you lock/unlock, it gives you the options to lock, lock size & position, lock style, lock content. A feature like this would be great.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Leaving the document unlocked - not ideal for people that aren't great with technology. :)

At the moment, you can only select Lock/Unlock for all features of Draw.io - In the screenshot, i have shown the options that lucidchart have when it comes to locking items. There is no way currently in Draw.io that i can find where i can select what features of the document i can lock. I want to be able to lock the position and content of an item, however still allow for style to be editable.

It would be great if the position and content within the items were locked for editing (can't be moved or words changed) - however the colours were still able to be changed.

Try Right-Click, Lock/Unloack or Edit, Lock/Unlock or Ctrl/Cmd+L with the respective shapes selected.

This locks all features - I'm after an option that allows you to select what features of the shape you want to lock. Using this lock/unlock feature, i'm not able to change the colour.

The reason why this would be beneficial is because the document i have created is a template for our teams where the content and location of the shapes are required to stay the same as it is a controlled document. Upon consultation with eachother, the teams decide who has what responsibilities and highlight the relevant shapes.

Examples of features that could be locked seperately:
-Style - Everything is unlocked and changeable except for the style. The style of the shapes (fonts, colours, lines) are not changeable, however you can still move the position of the shape and change the content.

  • Position- Everything is unlocked and changeable except for the position of the shape. The position can not be moved, however you can still edit the content and change the style as normal.
  • Content - Everything is unlocked and changeable except for the content within the shape. You can still change the position and style of the shape, but you can't change the content within the shape.

Does this request make sense? I'm not stressed if it can't or won't be done, i just wanted to put it out there as a feature opportunity.
