How to pass custom ENV Variables to Enterprise Gateway Kernel

Hello!

I have a custom Kernel built that is being run in the Enterprise Gateway. Is there a way that I can set
an ENV Variable before the Kernel is launched?

Here is what I have tried so far. As you can see, I have tried create a conda env vars file
or even the bashrc file, but not much luck.

# Choose a base image.  Preferrably one from https://github.com/jupyter/docker-stacks
FROM elyra/kernel-py:2.5.0 as base
ARG TAG
# Switch user to root since, if from docker-stacks, its probably jovyan
USER root

RUN apt-get update
RUN apt-get -y install libpq-dev curl

# Upgrade ipykernel to >= 6.0
RUN pip install ipykernel --upgrade
 


# Switch user back to jovyan and setup language and default CMD
USER $NB_UID
RUN mkdir -p /opt/conda/etc/conda/activate.d
RUN mkdir -p /opt/conda/etc/conda/deactivate.d
RUN touch /opt/conda/etc/conda/activate.d/env_vars.sh
RUN touch /opt/conda/etc/conda/deactivate.d/env_vars.sh
RUN echo "export _MODE=True" > /opt/conda/etc/conda/activate.d/env_vars.sh
RUN echo "unset _MODE" > /opt/conda/etc/conda/deactivate.d/env_vars.sh
RUN echo "export _MODE=True" >> /home/jovyan/.bashrc

What is the best way to accomplish this? Is there any other technique that are advised?
