The basic lichess user interface for playing and analyzing games is perfect. (Chef's kiss.)
OK, OK, nothing's perfect, so I understand the desire to continuously improve, but I'm troubled to see a trend recently with changes to the user interface that make it worse.
First there were the changes to the analysis graph to add redundant markers showing inaccuracies, mistakes, and blunders. These were unneeded, and they clash with the graphic design to boot. At least they only appear on hovering now.
(Edit: I almost forgot this one - the time graph was changed from a scatter plot to a bar chart so it no longer matches the advantage plot. The scatter plot version was better for spotting cheaters, because the lines joining the data points would really stand out as a horizontal line when someone was cheating.)
Then there was the addition of the weird red audio icon meant to signal unheard audio. At least it can be turned off.
And now, most recently, there are these new pink and purple arrows showing annotated variations? The trouble is, they look too much like the arrows used for the engine's preferred moves, and they add clutter to the board when reviewing games. They are distracting. Also, when you first encounter them, it isn't immediately clear what the colors mean, or why and when the arrows appear. I hope there is at least an option to turn these off coming soon.
I'm not really against improvement, or against change. It's just that the interface is already so good, that it is really hard to change anything without making it worse.
