I see two aspects to this, tracked in two issues in scikit-beam/autocorr:

analytical simulations, where we simulate the I(t) directly Test against simulated intensity time series with analytically known correlations. scikit-beam/autocorr#4
numerical simulations, where we obtain an I(t) from a particle dynamics simulation Test against xpcs-baseline scikit-beam/autocorr#3
