nemo-fileroller: fails to create archive on network drive mounted with GVFS #501

I have a SMB share on a NAS which is mounted via GVFS. When I right-click a file on it and choose "Compress...", then accept the default options, I get

INTERNAL_ERROR: Function 'archive_write_data' invoked with archive structure in state 'header', should be in state 'data'.

The error message does not occur when selecting zip or 7z as output format, but no archive is created, i.e. file-roller silently fails.

Tested with latest Linux Mint stable, using Nemo 5.8.4.

For the record: does not occur in GNOME/Nautilus.

Additional info: problem does not occur with GVFS mounts using SSH/SFTP.
