disconnected due to malformed packet

When trying to push data to my mqtt broker (Mosquitto) is get the messsage

 disconnected due to malformed packet

I tried different versions of the broker but I'm unable to fix this. Not sure how to debug this any futher.
I'm running Weewx inside docker on my QNAP nas.

Hi, I found the weewx log in a container is at /var/log/messages, so tail -f /var/log/messages from the container CLI or
docker exec weewx tail -f /var/log/messages from the CLI on the host. It may be different for your NAS.

I'm running the MQTT client in docker also and the log path is tail -f /path/to/volume/mosquitto.log from the host CLI.

is the only message I find in the logs

I've found that message usually relates to a protocol issue. Please assist us by showing your MQTT section (only) from weewx.conf.
