Flatpak packaging support #35
Comments
I know nothing about xdg-apps and dont even know where to start packaging for it or looking for documentation on how to do it. Do you know of any independent project( small project and not related to GNOME ) that creates these apps? From what i have seen so far and i havent been looking,xdg-app is a relatively young and immature project and not widely used. |
Someone managed to package Blender 2.77 😍 |
It has been renamed to Flatpak and is documented there. |
Perhaps you might be interested in AppImage: It allows you to package once and run on many different Linux distributions, without the need for installation. It is not tied to any particular desktop or distribution. There are already several complex applications out there which are distributed this way, e.g., Krita, Subsurface, and Scribus. |
Any update? |
I tried to create a package for one of the two technologies mentioned above shortly after this bug report was created and i was not convinced of the result. I build the package on fedora and it failed to run on ubuntu and i build a package on ubuntu and it failed to run on fedora. Will revisit this issue again sometimes next week. A few years have passed since i last tested and maybe things are better now. |
For AppImage I can help you if you can elaborate/share the AppImage for testing. |
I have tested many solutions and I think that AppIamge is the best and has a future: |
Would be great if it had been packaged as an xdg-app 😉
