What

Implement back-off retries for all API calls (i.e. on first failure, pause and retry, on second failure, pause longer and retry)

Why

  • Sometimes APIs will fail transiently and we need to account for that
  • This makes our system more reliable and alerts us to issues when there’s a genuine, permanent issue rather than a very brief one

It’s done when

  • Back-off retries on all API requests between components (Ctrl+F on “requests” probably)
    • Internal Serverless API calls
