Feature Request: Time tracking

I saw this feature in logseq, probably from org-mode (I have never used org-mode) where they would use labels like TODO|DOING|DONE etc to add timestamps to the task and then use those timestamps to display time next to the task during task view mode.

Hm, this would require a lot of additional data. E.g. every time you switch to and from DOING, a time stamp would need to be added to the task somehow. This isn’t feasible with the current setup of having everything in one line. It could maybe work in combination with another idea where meta data was put below the task in a markdown list 🤔

Yeah true, logseq manages this by keeping only the block in focus in the edit mode and leave the rest in preview mode. If you would click the checkbox or todo/doing, it will only change their values and not put the entire block in edit mode.

If obsidian starts supporting WYSIWYG like Typora (its on there on their public roadmap on trello), then maybe it can be done, I assume.

Time tracking -- could leverage Toggl's API? - but that might only work through a browser.

When you create a task - is there a time stamp in the backend?

There is a discussion around time stamps of the file which the task is in: #93

Tasks does not track creation or edit time on a task level at the moment. That would be metadata that would clog up the current formatting of tasks. I don’t think this is something that would be part of Tasks anytime soon.

I'm not suggesting an automatic swap back and forth, but a placement of a hyperlink to trigger the Toggl activation.

Hey there. Just to add to everyone's idea, I'd suggest to take a look at Super Productivity and the way he handled things.

Basically, it could be great to have a time format in the task like that :

- [ ] Stuff to do [ x m / x m ] ➕ CREATION ⌛SCHEDULED 📅 DUE

One could then input the estimated time in minutes (m) or hours (h). And we could have a button next to tasks icons to track time ? I think it'd be a really good addition, as too much time tracking is more often than not bad.

But some time tracking allow use to see the approximate duration of the planned task of the day. And at the end of the day, you get to compare the estimated time with the effective time, and that's a huge insight.

I think that there is some work being done here on that subject.
