Sorting only works if due date is at the end

I'm not sure whether this is a bug. Hence I'm opening a discussion first.
Let's assume I have the following tasks.

- [ ] Some task without due date
- [ ] 📅 2023-10-18 Do something more important
- [ ] 📅 2023-10-16 Do something important

I'm using the following query

```tasks 
not done
sort by due
``` 

The resulting list looks like this.

- [ ] Some task without due date
- [ ] 📅 2023-10-18 Do something more important
- [ ] 📅 2023-10-16 Do something important

But my expectation would be the following.

- [ ] 📅 2023-10-16 Do something important
- [ ] 📅 2023-10-18 Do something more important
- [ ] Some task without due date

If I add the due dates after the task description my expectations are met. So I'm wondering whether this a bug and feature which I simply missed in the docs.
