Vector (polygon) to GeoTIFF

Good afternoon,

I'm interested in retrieving an existing polygon of irregular shape as a GeoTIFF.

Effectively I think this looks like:

• Load vector.
• Get "Minimum Bounding Geometry" or bbox from polygon.
• Retrieve tile images and merge using TMS_to_GeoTIFF.
• Clip resulting GeoTiff by polygon.

I'm hoping to start a bit of a discussion to understand if there are existing functions I can use here to accomplish this. Initially I had thought to add some functions to "common.py" however I am starting to think it might make more sense to develop this solution independently and only implement samgeo once the resulting image is generated.

What do you think? Any thoughts very much appreciated and gladly accepted. I will continue to update here.
