Ask a question related to OpenToonz

Opentoonz has worked very well for me, I had been designing a character and put in a lot of color to him.
Eventually when using the Brush Tool for Coloring, when I let go of the mouse is when it's "Not Responding" for a long temporary amount of time. Same as when I "Save All" and other features beside the Fill and Select Tool.
Interestingly, when I create a new blank project or I go to my older files and use the same tools, it operates normally.

Operating System

Expected Behavior
Able to work continuously and fast without "Not Responding" Hiccups

Are you using vector levels, by chance?

Vector strokes create a lot of data points (control points/anchor points) which can lead to excessive lagginess when there are too many for your system to process. The brush should never be used to "color in" on a vector level. Instead, create a closed shape and fill in the color with the fill tool.

Thank you for responding!

Yes, I have been purely using Vector the whole time. I didn't use raster at all.
So you are saying that for drawing things out is normally for Vector,
and for coloring would normally be used for Raster?

You can draw on either. It's just that if you want to "color in" a fill area with the brush, that should be done with a raster format. Vectors should be filled in with the fill tool for a solid area.

Thank you so much for the great advice!
