This discussion's for discussing GitHub; what are things for, and how do we use them.

We chose to use GitHub because:

• It's open, anyone can participate, or just see things without logins.
• All the tools we use in one place, with ways of linking things between them.
• Has versions/commits/revisions/history for almost everything.

Here's how Github works:

• Everything is writen in markdown (**I'm bold!**).
• Discussions.
• Repositories are things we make, from websites to documentation.
• Projects are where you organize tasks and issues are the tasks.
• Wikis are docs.

Any proposals to use it differently, or just questions? I already have some!

Issue also have comments very similar to these in discussions. Should we for example, make updates on a task there or create a new discussion for that?

I'm not sure if discussions inside issues are accessible/visible enough for people who are not added to the issue/task. At least I think major tasks/issues should have a separate discussion thread.

In GitHub you can't really link issues to discussions nor the other way around, these are the alternatives:

• In disscussion you can "Create issue from discussion" (button in sidebar), which starts an issues and copies the title and description.
• In issues you can "Convert to disscussion" (button in sidebar) which keeps the author, description, comments and reactions, then closes the issue.
• But to keep both and link between them you can mention them like How to structure documentation? #4 (that came just from writing #4) and Propose structure for the documentation colab#1 (and this one from colab-at/colab#1). This doesn't link them but you could always add this in the end of issues/discussion for context. You can learn more here.
