I am using the git-plugins-updates plugin as a standalone plugin, but I am trying to get it to update my own plugins that I am writing, and it does not seem to be checking for the updates for them. I have a new version in the header of my Bitbucket repository, but it will not detect that the version has changed. Do I need to have anything in the readme file or is just the git repository URI enough? Please help.

The plugins just sit there. I have the Git URI in my plugin header, as well as the git-plugin-updates installed and active. No matter how many times I force WordPress to check for updates, nothing happens. Please help!
I'm pretty backlogged right now, so I might not have a chance to debug this for a while (and even then, it would be helpful to have some sort of error output or test case... or to know whether it used to work, then stopped, etc.). If you're in a pinch for time, you might take a look at https://github.com/afragen/github-updater
