I think the current supersplat controls are a good start and something you mostly find in small software-products. Here is a table, that shows how other software with 3D-Viewport is handling that.
My suggestion would be to look at the more complex tools like blender and copy their controls. For that I'd see the following changes:
Left-click-drag always selects splats with either Rectangle-Select or Lasso-Select
(Polygon-select will lock the view during selection and thus has to be enabled again for every selection)
Middle-click-drag (optional with Shift): The one with or without shift will pan the view, the other orbit it
Right-click opens a context menu. This could also do the shift-middle-click thing when dragging.
No default Arrow-Key flying
To keep a nice flying experience, there should be new fetures:
The top mode-thingy should not only show "Centers Mode" but also allow to switch between "Viewing Mode" and "Edit Mode"
In Viewing mode:
Flying is possible with WASD or Arrow-Keys. Q is up and E is down
Left-click-drag is rotating the camera (not orbit)
Left-Double-Click will select a point for orbiting. However, when using flying-keys, the orbiting will stop and fly again
