First meeting: Saturday, February 18th, 2017

• Why Go?

  • We discussed how it is the best language for people working on distributed systems.

• Course format

  • We will finish A Tour of Go

  • We will also follow along PluralSight's courses. The first course we will go through is Go: Getting Started by Mike VanSickele

• Intro to distributed systems

  • The best video ever
  • Help the work with this distributed computing project

• Meeting cycle

  • We will attempt to keep up a weekly cadence of meetings. It is important that everyone going through the course together is able to attend (online okay).

• Longer term

  • Once we finish our planned coursework, we will go on a coding vacation where we will build an app using Go!

Next steps

• We will check in with each other on Thursday via GitHub issues. We plan to meet again on Tuesday, Feb 28th at 7 PM PST. Location TBD. Please message if you would like to be invited to this.

  • First two lectures from Go: Getting Started

  • Finish upto the first Basics module in A Tour of Go, Packages, variables, and functions
