Storage engine iteration causing performance problems for other requests #122

A long-standing issue: iteration over a TC storage engine is very CPU intensive. So much so that the performance of the node handling other requests can be impacted. It'd be nice to find a way to reduce this effect.

#119 may be relevant. (It may reduce CPU usage.)
