I belief that open source is the future and I like to use it, but I also like to create it. I have a passion for Linux, but in this times I think tools should run on all platforms. One of my favourite open source tools is ffmpeg, and for long my dream was to have a playout system based on that. Playout is a complex thing, because we have to deal with gaps and different timings. It can also be, that we have different audio/video formats and for playout we have to unify them. Another case is, that in this days everybody wants to go in the cloud. Specially for 24/7 video streaming this is interesting, because internet server have most time a way more stable network connecting, than a normal office situation.

Some years ago I started the project ffplayout, and this have all the benefits for a good and modern playout solution. It is written in python, which makes it very portable, it works with ffmpeg - what can take almost any audio/video format and transcode them. ffmpeg runs also on every platform, use not much resources and can run very well in cloud situation, because it don't need any GPU feature.

I would like to extent ffplayout more, with an modern, browser based, GUI. Add more features and hold it up to date.
