In using ROSE to compile the ROSE source code
there are three leves of tests:
1) Analysis
2) Code Generation
3) Translation
4) Running executable built from ROSE compiling ROSE on the ROSE test suite.
We are at a stage of maturity within the ROSE project that we regularly do steps
1 and 2 for all of the source code in ROSE (not just the src directory).
This is a huge accomplishment for us, but it is hardely the end.
Note on how to debug ROSE compiling ROSE:
1) For analysis there are no special steps.
2) For code generation it is helpful to monitor
the progress of the code generation via uncommenting
some code. I use this macro to control this:
#define ROSE_TRACK_PROGRESS_OF_ROSE_COMPILING_ROSE 0
There are three files where it is used, and it must be
set at the top of all three files if full tracking is used:
a) The unparser:
src/backend/unparser/CxxCodeGeneration/unparseCxx_statements.C
b) The name qualification support (both files):
src/frontend/SageIII/astHiddenTypeAndDeclarationLists/HiddenList.C
src/frontend/SageIII/astHiddenTypeAndDeclarationLists/NamespacesAndClassTraversal.C
