Describe the problem

The UI makes it look like you cannot create plain JS files as the extension of new files is ".svelte" and that part cannot be selected.
This trips people up (I also did not realise this was possible until it was pointed out somewhere), saw another comment about this just now.

Describe the proposed solution

  • Make the entire name editable as one would expect from other places, such as IDEs or file browsers.
  • On new file: Default to .svelte extension and only select name part.
  • On rename of existing file: Maybe pre-select name part.

You probably could, there also is a "Contributing" channel on the Discord that might be helpful for coordination.

In the new playground, the entire file name is selected/edited on rename.
