In the run_*.sh scripts, need a --dev switch. If dev is off, simulations is out of the box. For example, analysis_dev should not be copied by rsync, rather the existing analysis directory should be used.

automatic detection of analysis-dev/ presence implemented [#18]

if analysis-dev is present, it is used as the analysis
directory. otherwise the analysis folder out of the box
gets used.
