I'm trying to do so, at least. Never written an Anki extension before, but this sounds like it was very useful.

My initial work is at my fork, will update if I figure it all out

Well, it all works now! The interface is not exactly the same, but it is still intuitive I think. Installation instructions are on my repo here.
