Whois error bij domeinen die beginnen met een cijfer #31

Bij het uitvoeren van de Whois functie, bij een domeinnaam die begint met een cijfer, krijg ik telkens de volgende error: ";; INVALID REQUEST"

Ik gebruik bv dit commando: $tipApi->domainWhois()->getByDomainName($domain);

Het gaat bij elk domein goed, zolang deze niet begint met een cijfer. Of doe ik iets fout?
