Which Umbraco version are you using? (Please write the exact version, example: 10.1.0)

14.3.0

Bug summary

When using the drag/drop functionality in the MediaPicker3 or directly in the Media section with a video of type MOV, the file is not being automatically identified as the media type "Movie" but instead as the media type "File"

This is probably somewhat related to: #16786

Specifics

I've used the MOV-file from here for testing:
https://file-examples.com/wp-content/storage/2018/04/file_example_MOV_480_700kB.mov

I have verified the mime-type of the file specified, which is "video/quicktime".

After uploading

Possible place to start

I'm not completely sure where the mapping is done, but I can see input-upload-field.element.ts that's using the media/components/input-upload-field/utils.ts, that "mov" with aforementioned mime-type "video/quicktime" is specified here:

Would probably make sense to start by verifying that the mapping is actually done correctly here?

Steps to reproduce

  • Install a clean version of Umbraco 14.3.0
  • Download the MOV-file from here - you can probably use any MOV-file, I've just tested with this one.
  • Go to the media section
  • Drag and drop the video into the dropzone (upload)
  • Video will be uploaded
  • Now check the media type that it has been created as (file type)

Expected result / actual result

When uploading a file of type mov with the mimetype "video/quicktime" I would expect the media type would be "video" and not "file".

Hi there @RBerntsen!

Firstly, a big thank you for raising this issue. Every piece of feedback we receive helps us to make Umbraco better.

We really appreciate your patience while we wait for our team to have a look at this but we wanted to let you know that we see this and share with you the plan for what comes next.

  • We'll assess whether this issue relates to something that has already been fixed in a later version of the release that it has been raised for.
  • If it's a bug, is it related to a release that we are actively supporting or is it related to a release that's in the end-of-life or security-only phase?
  • We'll replicate the issue to ensure that the problem is as described.
  • We'll decide whether the behavior is an issue or if the behavior is intended.

We wish we could work with everyone directly and assess your issue immediately but we're in the fortunate position of having lots of contributions to work with and only a few humans who are able to do it. We are making progress though and in the meantime, we will keep you in the loop and let you know when we have any questions.

Thanks, from your friendly Umbraco GitHub bot 🤖 🙂
