1yr expiration time for Individual Contributors #194
Comments
Proposal to change expiration time to 1 year (annual explicit affirmation of participation agreement). |
This needs tooling before we make this change, but general agreement we should do this, with 1-yr expiration. May need to do something like use GH auth on the participate server to make this as seamless and easy as possible. |
Legal agreed, btw; at this point, we are awaiting tooling to support this, and then just need to write this up. |
Invited Individuals have an expiration time of 3 years. It was suggested that this would make sense for Individual Contributors as well.
Some care should be taken if we decide to pursue this though to avoid too much busy work and notification emails. Perhaps we can make it so it can be somewhat easily extended upon the first contribution beyond the expiration time.
A related problem here is that https://participate.whatwg.org/agreement#rights-and-obligations suggests Individual Contributors should get in touch with the SG when things change, while they mainly deal with Editors or Admins when it comes to the Participation Agreement. In practice this goes through Editors and Admins so that is probably worth clarifying as well.
