P25HostsLocal is a great way for users to easily add talk groups to their own reflectors either for linking local ham repeaters or simply adding 3rd party reflectors to their hotspot or repeater. Previous the update would overwrite these changes and wipe out the local hosts file.

You are missing the point, the file you should be editing is the one in /root this is where all of the local overrides live on PiStar currently, if you edit that file, you changes are merged into the files /user/local/etc |

I would love to help with that time permitting. I assume you're using the
wiki currently correct?
I was also curious about the configuration files and if you update those
via pi-star's update script, I haven't checked myself yet.
g4klx accepted a pull request earlier today that adds a home TG revert
after an inactivity timeout for P25 and if I recall the P25Gateway config
file does not
officially/currently have 'InactivityTimer=0' listed in the configuration
so it won't be an option on pi-star until that is added.
I'm assuming you update the binaries from his repository.
